A small thing that we can learn from the Japanese
The north-east region of Japan was badly hit by a magnitude 8.9 earthquake followed by a tsunami that struck the region on 11 Mar 2011. It caused bad damages to the regions infrastructures and taken away thousand of life. The country is currently facing the worst nuclear disaster ever in this country when the earthquake and tsunami knocked out power to the Nuclear plant that causing the plant’s cooling system not functioning. The result was a overheating Nuclear reactor that could blow off if it could not be cool down in time.
From some of the news and photos, I learned that and also admired the spirits and discipline the Japan’s people displayed to the world. Even though running out of fuel at the petrol stations and foods in the supermarket, peoples were patiently queuing up for their turn to buy the foods and pump the petrol. In contrast, some countries during this bad period of time, some people were robing the shops and fighting for foods that delivered to them.
I could not image what will our people react if similar disaster happen in our country even in a much smaller scale. I still remember months ago, an accident involved a truck carried rice that tumbled to the road at the North-South highway. Motorist and residents were stopped by at the location. They were not given a helping hand but rushing and competing to collect the rice that spread on the road. this incident suggest that somehow, this could be what our people will react amidst of disaster.
This small incident showed that we still have a big rooms for improvement toward a nation of highly developed society and culture. The ethic and high discipline displayed by the Japanese do not change even in the bad time of the disaster. It looks small but we can learn from them.
