What can we verify over the Video Authenticity?
Everyone with some knowledges of using movie editing softwares such as MS Movie Maker and Adobe Premier is able to produce video that combine the objects with any backgrounds that shot at separate timing. Thanks to the feature that generally referred as layering.
So in the event if someone presented a video that claim that an UFO was found in the sky above the Eiffel Tower or someone was dancing with an elf, then we will have to verify the authenticity of this video by checking if it’s an original video shot or it’s an product of video editing using technique such as layering , Graphic, 3D animation, etc.
In another scenario, if someone presents a video that claim that a famous Hollywood celebrity driving a Ferrari out with a girl next to him, usually we will verify if the person in the video is the celebrity that they claimed to be or he is just a look alike. Verifying if there is any layering or other video editing technique being used does not serve much purpose in this scenario.
So, I’m confuse when I read that the authority announced that “Experts confirmed the authenticity of the “Datuk T” video. Are they confirmed that the video is a product of original shot or they have confirmed the person involved in the video is the person that the Datuk T claims? If the authenticity refers to the later, then it should be the end of this scandal. The police and the authority can start to take the necessary actions since the person in the video has been identified. However if the authenticity is merely confirm that the video is an original shot, then I wonder how much of this statement can help to identify the person in the video and what kind of breakthrough have they achieve?
I feel that it’s wise if the police department and the department in charge of this type of scandal can handle the case as low profile as possible. they don’t have to hold a press conference to announce such meaningless statement. After all, this kind of scandal is not a healthy news that should attract the attention of the nation especially for prolong period of time. Instead, the nation should be exposed to more info about the government policies, the social development and the current world affairs.
