A Little Girl Incident in the Book Store

August 28, 2011

This evening while I was browsing books in a book store, I overhead a short conversation between a father and his littler unsatisfied daughter when they walked passed me to leave the book store. The father is walking in front while the little girl tailing him an kept complaining about them have to leave so soon.

Father     : We go back now and will come again next time.
Little girl: Why leave so soon? I’m not done with the book yet.
Father     : We can come back another day and you can continue your reading.
little girl : But then I will not remember which page I’ve stopped.

I didn’t turn back to look at them. I was still searching for my book while their conversation faded in the air. It was a rather amusing conversation. A simple and genuine comment from a girl.

I’m not sure why the father refused to buy the book for his daughter.  He can have his own reasons. But shouldn’t we be glad if our children like to read? I’ll be more than happy to encourage my kid to read by bringing them to the book shop and help them to select some good books. It  is good to develop a reading habit while the kid is young.

Apart form this, I guess  this is a common Malaysian culture to spend time in the book store for free browsing but not buying any book.

I left the book store with some valued buy John Grisham’s fictions and other non fiction book that will be enough to keep me busy for months. Tonight i’m going to do some reading while watching the TV. (Multitasking)…
